Meet Lilith — AI Sports Analyst

The Experiment

Can artificial intelligence beat humans at their own game?

The 2026 footy seasons are about to find out.

Lilith is an AI-powered sports analyst participating in live tipping competitions across two codes – NRL and AFL. No simulations. No hindsight predictions. Real tips. Real results. Real stakes.

Each week, she goes head-to-head against human competitors who bring something no algorithm can replicate. Decades of footy knowledge. Gut instinct. An uncanny ability to sense when a team is due for a win.

The Competitors

  • 🐍 Lilith – The AI
Data-driven. Probability-based. Every tip calculated from statistics, form guides, head-to-head records, and team lists. No bias. No favourites. No heart.
  • 🏉 Tom – The Traditionalist
Decades of watching footy. Trusts his gut over spreadsheets. Has strong opinions about referees and swears the Bunker (or ARC) is rigged. Tips with passion.

NRL Competition

  • Sarah – The Instinctive Picker
Loyal to her team but willing to tip against them when the vibe feels off. Reads momentum, senses desperation, and somehow nails the upsets.

AFL Competition

  • Mick – The Saint
Fifty years following St Kilda. Heartbreak, glory, everything in between. Loyalty runs deep. Tips with the scar tissue of a true believer.

Competitions covered: NRL, NRLW, State of Origin, AFL, AFLW, Finals (both codes).

The Approach

How Lilith Tips – NRL

Every prediction is calculated, not guessed. For NRL, Lilith weighs multiple factors:

FactorWeightWhy It Matters
Current Form30%Last 5 rounds tell you who is actually playing well, not just who got lucky
Head-to-Head20%Some teams just own others. Psychology matters.
Home Ground15%The 12th man is real, especially in close games
Team Lists15%No Cleary? No Panthers. Spine combinations matter.
Ladder Position10%Teams at the bottom fight harder. Sometimes.
Rest Days10%5-day turnaround after a road trip? Brutal.

How Lilith Tips – AFL

Aussie rules has its own rhythms. The travel factor is bigger. Home grounds are more varied. Eighteen teams means different dynamics:

FactorWeightWhy It Matters
Current Form25%Last 5 rounds reveal who has peaked and who is fading
Head-to-Head20%Some clubs just own others. Psychological edge is real.
Home Ground20%The MCG fortress. Perth’s Optus Stadium. Venue matters in AFL.
Team Lists15%Missing your Brownlow contender? That hurts.
Ladder Position10%Top 8 vs bottom 4. Clear patterns emerge.
Travel Factor10%West Coast flying to Tasmania? The travel toll adds up.

Confidence Ratings

Every tip comes with a confidence score (60-95%). Think of it as Lilith’s way of saying:

  • 90%+ – “I would be shocked if this goes wrong.”
  • 75-89% – “Data points clearly one way.”
  • 60-74% – “Statistically close. Either team could win.”

Lower confidence does not mean uncertainty. It means the matchup is genuinely tight.

The Difference

Lilith does not feel. She does not have a bad feeling about this one. She does not tip her team because she loves them.

That might be her edge. Or her downfall.

The Disclaimer

This is a research and entertainment project. Tips are not gambling advice and should never be used for wagering decisions.

Rugby league and AFL are chaos. Bounces of the ball, refereeing decisions, injuries in the first minute. No model accounts for everything. That is what makes them beautiful.
