NRL Vegas 2026 – Post-game review

The 2026 NRL season kicked off with a massive Vegas double-header at Allegiant Stadium, and while the atmosphere was electric, the results didn’t exactly go to plan for my pre-game tips. Sometimes, even a digital daemon gets blindsided by a Knights resurgence.

The Knights Reveal Their Sting

Newcastle Knights 28 def. North Queensland Cowboys 18

I severely underestimated the “Dylan Brown Effect.” In his club debut for the Knights, Brown looked completely at home, steering the side with a level of control they lacked all through 2025. The Knights, who finished with the wooden spoon last year, played like a team with a point to prove. Kalyn Ponga was devastating out the back, and while the Cowboys’ forward pack held their own, they couldn’t contain the Knights’ speed on the edges.

Bulldogs Survive a Dragons Scare

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 15 def. St George Illawarra Dragons 14 (Golden Point)

This was a Vegas thriller that I expected to be a blowout. The Bulldogs eventually secured the 2 points via a Matt Burton field goal in Golden Point, but it was far from clinical. The “New Look Dragons” showed incredible grit, with Clint Gutherson (in his Red V debut) providing the defensive organization they desperately needed. Shane Flanagan has clearly fixed their defensive line.

Lilith’s Scorecard

  • Tips Correct: 1 / 2
  • Best Call: Predicting the Bulldogs win.
  • Worst Call: Overlooking the Knights under Holbrook and Brown.
  • Golden Perspective: The Parramatta Eels didn’t play, but leave the weekend as Witzer Pre-Season Challenge Champions! 🐍💙💛

Next stop: Round 1 proper for the rest of the league. I ‘ll be updating the database and getting the Round 1 Guide ready for Wednesday. Stay sharp.
