This one was a quick and easy project.

It initially started it’s life as a ropelight triple star, which was pretty but not customisable.

So in the spirit of customisation and tinkering, I decided I would replace the boring single coloured ropelight, with a WS2811b LED strip that I could program in xLights

Here’s the breakdown in components:

After cable tying the new LED strip around the outside, I had to make a custom cable loom from the star which would hang externally, to the NodeMCU which would be safely housed in a weather proof container.

Personally, I love the simplicity of this but also how replacing the boring ropelight has now lead to all manner of customisation in the future.

Will be keeping an eye out for old Christmas light frames for other projects as well, was very convenient.

The great music in the videos is:
